Sophie Descombes Rogers - Break the Pattern

Break the Pattern is an awareness campaign designed to help young women recognise the early signs of abuse in relationships, focusing on emotional, psychological, coercive control, and digital abuse.

The project highlights how abuse often begins subtly, with behaviours that do not immediately appear harmful, but can gradually escalate over time. Research and survey findings showed that many young women struggle to identify these early signs, particularly when abuse is not physical. In response, the campaign uses short-form video content to explore each type of abuse, supported by a series of Instagram posts that break down behaviours and show how they can develop into harmful patterns over time. Inspired by Gen Z visual culture, the campaign avoids overly heavy or preachy messaging, instead using a more engaging and emotionally relatable approach. By combining awareness with realistic scenarios, Break the Pattern encourages young women to trust their instincts, recognise unhealthy patterns earlier, and set clear boundaries.
