This project follows a young dyslexic person as she embarks on a journey to learn about dyslexia and how it effects people emotionally and mentally throughout their life.
This project follows a young dyslexic person as she embarks on a journey to learn about dyslexia and how it effects people emotionally and mentally throughout their life. She does this through interviews with family and friends to hear their stories, along with professionals who share informative posts online. Research has found that dyslexic individuals experience high rates of anxiety, stress, depression, embarrassment, poor self-esteem and isolation as a result of this disability. This project aims to inform people with dyslexia that they are not alone and other people experience similar difficulties. This may help them feel less isolated by hearing other people's thoughts and feelings. It may also open a conversation with people who are not affected by dyslexia, about the impacts it can have on a dyslexic person's mental health. As this is a topic that is not widely discussed or known about.
About Sarah
Sarah Kennedy is a 22-year-old Creative Digital Media student. Sarah has a broad interest in many of the aspects of digital media including design, photography, and film making. She has always had a particular interest in people, hearing and sharing their stories and experiences across different projects and mediums. This is why documentary film making is an area that particularly appeals to her. She has experience in a variety of college projects and has completed an internship in digital marketing for Smyths Toys. Here she was able to put into practice her range of skills to produce campaign concepts and designing posts. She also was involved in photographing events, assisted on production of advertisements and creating short form video for the company's social media channels. Sarah really enjoyed the experience of working in all the different areas to produce various types of content.
