Nell Aère - Re-Enactors of Medieval and Viking Times

This short documentary is about Re-Enactors of Medieval and Viking Times.

Thorough the year, they travel around Ireland and abroad putting on shows and displays to the public. They set up camps and display their crafts like in the times of Viking villages. Re-Enactors share their love of History and try to reciprocate the authentic and rustic way of life of those times. There are other ways to relive and experience History than textbooks, as they told me. By putting on a helmet, watching craftsmen at their stalls, young and old can pretend for a day to be a Viking.

I spoke to Fergal Ryan, a willow basket weaver; Hannah, Kane and Morgan of Fingal Living History Society, who displayed food cooking, minted coins, made pewter jewellery and carved wood, as well as staged a little fight display; I met Paul in Dublinia, the Viking Museum at the apothecary stall.

About Nell

My name is Nell Aère. I was born in Brittany and came over to Ireland at 18 years old. I embarked on this course in Creative Digital Media, as a very mature student. As a very keen photographer, I discovered during these four years of studies Filmmaking and Videography. Storytelling has taken on a different meaning as I learned the skills to incorporate and intertwine the different disciplines in a digital and creative way. Through this course, I learned valuable insights in the multi-disciplinary modules in Digital Media and gained confidence in asserting my creative aspirations for the next chapter post-graduation.
