Beyond the Walls is a short-form documentary from Kotryna’s own experience of leaving Lithuania for Ireland.
It centres on five individuals who, like her, are redefining "home" in locations distant from their origins of their homes. An emotional connection is created by each person opening the door to a typical room, including a kitchen, a bedroom, or a garden. Conversations about memory, migration, and the traditions that connect the past to the present are sparked by the flickering childhood photos next to new rooms. Interviews transition into creative B-roll, transforming commonplace objects such as a postcard wall or the kettles into representations of commitment. The documentary serves as a reminder that belonging is a link we maintain, re-establish, and share rather than a place on a map.
About Kotryna
Kotryna is a 2025 graduate of Creative Digital Media at TU Dublin. She is originally from Lithuania, but living in Dublin taught her that home is a sense rather than just a postcode. She fell in love with the ability of videography to capture moments and transcend distances over four years. Her art celebrates strength and belonging by fusing personal stories with moody imagery. She looks for stories that make strangers become neighbours, whether she's capturing student-life stories or advertising campaigns. Her most intimate effort to date, "Beyond the Walls," explores what home means when it is reinterpreted afar.
