The “Little Big Imagination” project involved students of St. Patrick’s National School in Corduff writing a short story as part of their normal class work. The children then acted as ‘clients’ in a one to one briefing meeting with ITB Creative Digital Media students where their stories were transformed into inspiring graphics to match their narrations. The result of this project was an illustrative book containing all the children’s stories with graphics to match. Website: www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/littlebigimagination.
The Creative Digital Media second year Visual Communications module aims to introduce students to a structured design process and best practice for print production. Through the “Little Big Imagination” continuous assessment project, CDM students had the opportunity of translating the concepts of young storytellers into illustrations through a process of communication and ideation through to the completed designs.
The collaboration has been a wonderful opportunity to draw inspiration from the creative imaginations of these talented young authors. Creative Digital Media students were motivated by their enthusiastic and clients, along with the prospect of creating a completed product dependent on collective contribution.
Students with heavily weighted practical assessment on the CDM course were able to further develop existing research and design assets in multiple modules throughout second year. In the Website Design module, the same stories were translated into online narratives available to view along with the original publication at www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/littlebigimagination.
