since it’s the start of a new year I thought I’d better add a new post to the blog.
I’m teaching Web Development 1 to year 1 students on the BA/BA(Hons) degrees.
I’ll also be teaching the Interactive 3D Environments to the year 4 BA(Hons) students.
For the 3D work we’ll be using models created in Blender (http://www.blender.org/ which you’ll learn from Hugh), and 3D scripting and interactive environment building using the Unity (http://unity3d.com/) site.
Both are very powerful applications, that are availableFREE for both Mac and Windows (and Blender is even avilable for Linux).
Visit the following website (and install the Unity web player – like the Flash player) to play games from the 2010 BSc (Hons) game teams, from our more technical computing degree. You’ll see the professional 3D interactive game systems that are possible (these 2 games were created in 6 weeks by teams of 5 students each). The games can be played in your web browser at: http://www.saintgermes.com/
One team even created a promotional YouTube video for their mario-cart-sytle game (Capall Cart – “capall” means horse in Irish…). Watch it here at: http://youtu.be/-ByLt4UWFBg
